Bared to You
by Sylvia Day

Published June 12, 2012 by Berkley Trade

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness...

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private worlds...and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

I was never much of a smoker but, boy, did I want to light one up after finishing this novel! Bared to You is the kind of book that barrels into you like a freight train and plows over every emotional and erotic hotspot present in the human body. It has been compared countless times to 50 Shades of Grey and, yes, I understand the comparison. Bared to You is about a dominant male character with a past full of demons and a beautiful young woman (with demons of her own) who falls hard for him. The love story between these two characters is based on their strong sexual chemistry. But that is where the similarities between this book and 50 Shades of Grey end. In this novel, Sylvia Day tells the tale of a raw, obsessive, and at times heart-breaking love affair.  Ms. Day takes the reader through the characters’ difficult journey toward healing their fractured selves, so that they can ultimately become part of a whole.

The main character, Eva, has an abusive and troubled past that she is trying to overcome. She counts on work, friends, and supportive family members to keep her life steady and safe. Gideon Cross is the opposite of steady and safe. He crashes (literally) into Eva’s world and the two of them start throwing off sparks that light up the sky.

Bared to You is a smart, sexy, erotic thrill ride. Eva’s character is down-to-earth and likeable. Gideon, while not necessarily being “likeable” right off the bat, does elicit feelings of empathy and leaves the reader desperate to learn more about his past. Did I mention he was hot? He leaps off the page as a sexy, driven, intelligent man with his own dark past. And his love for Eva knows no bounds.

Can the undeniable passion that Eva and Gideon feel transform into something real and lasting? Can, Gideon, who comes with his own trunk full of baggage be a positive and stable fixture in Eva’s life? And can two self-described dysfunctional people have a normal, healthy relationship? It isn’t an easy path, but fans of the HEA need to hang on for the ride as these two beautiful, damaged and passionate people fight for the love they both deserve.
