A Man Controlled By His Desires

Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows the area like the back of her hand—she cares for its children at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk…

A Woman Haunted By Her Past

Caire makes a simple offer—in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as a cold bargain soon falls prey to a passion neither can control—and may well destroy them both.

Widowed Temperance Dews and her brother Winter have taken over their father's work at the Foundling Home. She is close to her siblings, but doesn't allow herself to become too attached to the children. When she realizes that there is not enough money to keep the home going, she will do just about anything to find it some wealthy sponsors.

Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for his mistress's killer in the streets of St. Giles. When he meets Temperance, he is inexplicably drawn to her and thus offers her a deal: She will help him navigate on his hunt, and he will introduce her to potential donors. What begins as a practical arrangement soon turns into something more and danger is lurking around every corner. Caire is playing a sensual cat and mouse game with Temperance but finds he is the one who is snared.

Temperance is a woman who is still punishing herself for the past, putting everyone's needs before her own. Lazarus is a jaded, cynical man with a surprisingly fragile heart. He cannot bear the touch of another, except his little sister who died when he was but a child.

I enjoyed this story very much. Temperance and Lazarus are so weighed down by the past, it makes it all the sweeter when they surrender their hearts to love. There were some extremely compelling, interesting secondary characters including Caire's best friend St. John, Temperance's brother Winter and sister Silence, and the mysterious infamous Ghost of St. Giles (masked villain... or protector?).

This is the first book in the Maiden Lane series. Book 2 Notorious Pleasures, features Lady Hero Batten and Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading. Book 3, which was released just last week, is Scandalous Desires and features Silence Hollingbrook and "Charming" Mickey O'Connor. (Check out our Giveaways page for your chance to win a copy!)
